Desiring God 2006: I'm Back & I'm Just Getting Started

Some of you have not been fooled by this blog's calm exterior. You know I'm back, and you wonder why I'm not talking. Your silent stares have been making the blog self-conscious. Is there a reason for my prolonged silence? Well, sure there is.

I guess I could point to my non-existent laptop computer and say, "See?! See what I have to work with!?" Ultimately, the blackout has been more reflective than unwired, though. I've been wondering how much time and space to spend on "The Supremacy of Christ in a Postmodern World" and I've been giving myself some time for the trickle-down effect to kick in.

True, I could say that the weekend was culturally focused, helpfully unbalancing and profoundly influential. (It was.) But what would I really be saying? I don't like sentence-long summaries of hour-long talks, which share the frightening, hit-or-miss implications of a random Iowan restroom. (Yeah, that was a dreaded insider crack, but I would be willing to explain...if you, say, bought me some coffee.)

What I think I'm going to do is post on several of the talks over the next couple days, unless my midterms interfere unduly. David Wells, Tim Keller, Mark Driscoll and John Piper will be on tap. Don't look for straight transcripts, though. The beauty of DG06 is that the conference MP3s will be available for free download within a few days, so you can grab full audio of anything that perks your interest.

If you want to grab some commentary right now, here are some links:
Manuscript to John Piper's talk, Conference Reflections from C.J. Mahaney, Personal Highlights from Joshua Harris, general coverage from Challies.com.

If you read widely about the conference, I'd caution you to be suspicious of people whacking on Mark Driscoll - criticism I've come across in the last couple days has been sweepingly unimpressive.

All right, I think I've psyched myself up for a real post, now.

It seems demeaning and derogatory Driscoll Criticism seems to come in droves these days. Looking forward to your posts about the conference. (hmmm, an overly alliterated sentence followed by one without a subject)
