Jayhawks Wax Washburn

In Case You Missed It

Kansas 99
Washburn 69

The Jayhawks manhandled the Division II Ichabods in a season-opening exhibition game - as well they should have. More important than the margin of victory were stellar performances from KU's freshmen. Commentary from the Lawrence Journal World:

Not to over-hype Darrell Arthur’s performance — after all, it was an exhibition — but he did have 21 points, six rebounds, six steals and two blocks in his Jayhawk debut. Had the game not been an exhibition, Arthur would have tied Norm Cook’s KU record for most points by a freshman in his debut, which was achieved on Dec. 1, 1973 against Murray State. He also would have tied a freshman record for blocked shots, which Nick Collison set against Nebraska on Feb. 23, 2000...

There was no question that [Sherron] Collins was pressing a little to hard to squeeze into the scoring column in the first half, and he wound up scoreless at the break on 0-for-3 shooting. But Collins showed a soft shooting touch in the second half, hitting two threes, and finished the game with five assists, including a sweat touch dish to Julian Wright for a fastbreak slam. Down the road, he could have the same mid-season boost Mario Chalmers showed a year ago...as long as he plays like he did in the game’s final 20 minutes.

One subpar oppenent in, things look good for the Kansas Jayhawks. I wonder if Darrell Arthur will challenge Texas' Kevin Durant for Freshman of the Year honors...

Just so you know, I'm not refusing to comment on your basketball posts, because I'm ignoring them. The reason for this, as well as the absence of response on my blog will become apparent next week.

Stay tuned.

Cheers.

Fair enough, as long as you produce the posts to back it up. Unsubstantiated trash talk will not be tolerated!

Things must look pretty rosy out there in KU country. And I predict that they shall remain rosy until KU gets bounced before the Sweet 16 like they do every year.

A'right. I can handle that. As long as you stand by it in March! I'll go ahead and say: Not happening. KU will make the Elite Eight in '07.

Nice to see a few smacksters emerging.
