Wind & Fire

© 2004 Ariel Vanderhorst

The cold gleam
of sunlight streams
through vivid dying leaves
and I remember
everthing
life's summer seemed
to bring.

Is it just me, or is there a certain nostalgia that blows in with Autumn?

There's definitely a nostalgia that blows in with autumn. It brings back memories of past summers, I feel.

Your lines remind me of a more developed work on the same theme. Richard Wilbur's In the Elegy Season beautifully captures the thought of autum. Check it out. (for a detailed look at the historical and etymological significance of the words he uses throughout his poem, email apaulo11@juno.com for your free copy of his two page homework assignment ; )

Anyway, check out the poem if you're not familiar with it. You'll apreciate it.

Just in case, you didn't assume I liked your autum elegy on the "elegy" seaon, I very much did. : )
