Why Is Coffee a Sin Against God?

Google queries still retain the ability to shock. Why is coffee a sin against God? I'm both amazed and happy you came here asking that question. Let me set you straight:

It's not.

Not against the Christian God, anyway. Smaller gods may have issues with coffee (as opposed to larger concerns, with, say, evil), not this one.
Voila! You are now free enjoy God's good creation. A more serious defense of coffee could be made, but now that you know the fundamental truth (God made coffee, and likes it), greater understanding will follow.

Glad I could resolve this vital theological question.

If coffee is a sin, then call me the king of all sinners!!!!

Ariel, being the coffee connoisseur that you are, I have a question for you. I am in the market for an affordable, reliable coffee grinder. I have been told that "burr grinders" are the best, but don't know which model to buy. I was curious to see if you might have a suggestion.

Also, I would be interested to know how you go about brewing your best pot of coffee. Do you use paper filters? A typical coffee maker? etc, etc, etc.

Maybe this might be a good post for the near, near future :)

But of course coffee IS a sin against God, just like alcohol, sex, dancing, baseball card collecting, and eating... if it crosses boundaries that guard God-being-god in our hearts and habits. Better put: "He loves too little, who loves anything together with Thee, which he loves not for Thy sake." (Augustine)

Coffee has sounded good all day, since the very moment I began my insane videographing trek around KU to get footage of sculptures.

More than happy to step in.

Dustin, as I contemplated my answer to your vitally important questions, it struck me: This is not the kind of thing I can do in a comment. Post on the way.

Pathfinder provides some necessary balance to this blunt post. We all hate to say it, but, yes...even coffee can become a sin. Not that it's easy. Personally, I think that if you drink over 24 cups a day, it's time to take a good, hard look at your conscience.

Coffee has sounded good all day

Don't let it end there! Do something about it!

It is a thorn in my side and I am not ashamed.

Well, it's hard to be ashamed of the liquid grace of God. I'm with you on this one, Dan.

That's good to know, but I wasn't going to put my coffee down if it was anyways. :) If I remember correctly, Mormons don't drink caffeine. They prefer Sprite.

What about Marijuana? God made that too right? And in no way am I against coffee (I have a pot brewing as we speak) but what is really the difference between this and all other organic drugs? If you drink coffee you get wired. If you smoke pot you get the munchies whilst relieving pain if you have any. I just thought I'd touch on it for the fact that I heard a bunch of pastors sitting around talking about how they we're so happy that a marijuana dispensary owner was thrown in prison and lost everything (even though he was fully legal and was approved by the county and city to do business) WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE? WHY IS IT SUCH A FAUX PAH? DO I USE IT MYSELF...NO. SO THEN WHY CAN ONE THING BE USED RECREATIONALLY AND TO 'WAKE YOU UP' OR MORE DEPENDING ON WHO YOU ARE WHILE ANOTHER IS TREATED AS IF IT WERE CRACK COCAINE? PLEASE EXPLAIN TO ME....SOMEONE...AND DON'T USE LEGALITY TO JUSTIFY THE POINT. BECAUSE LEGALITY NOW MORE THAN EVER SHOWS HOW CORRUPTED THE SYSTEM IS. REMEMBER WE NOW WILL BE BREAKING THE LAW BY NOT HAVING HEALTH INSURANCE...READY TO PAY THAT HEALTHY FINE???
