Coming Soon, Blogger Beta

In the next week or so, if all goes well, I will be making the much-anticipated switch to Blogger Beta. (Or is it Blogger 2.0 by now?) Anyway, keep your eyes open. I'm not anticipating any major glitches, but it's likely that some hacks will stop working and a few of you may need to switch your RSS subscriptions. If you want to play it safe, you can check now: This is the correct RSS feed, which will continue to work. Once I make the switch to Beta, I'll be updating the blog's functionality a little.

Oh yeah, and there are some real posts on the way as well.

Since I switched to Beta, for some reason I receive e-mail notifications of comments for only one person when she posts them. I don't get it; moreover, I have yet to hear anything from Blogger's Help Desk, despite e-mailing them twice about it. So--something to look out for, perhaps.

I've switched some of my blogs over, though I held off on completely converting my most customized blog over when I realized that the new templates were not as straight forward to edit as the originals. The new ones use this 'widget' system that you have to work within in order to change some features. Anyway, I wish you luck and look forward to hearing your observations on the process. =)

Uh oh. Not quite the glowing testimonial I was hoping for.

Thanks for the heads up, Dana. It will be a little scary to plunge ahead and see what hacks stop working. I thought I was about to change over...but Blogger keeps inviting me to make the switch, then rejecting my attempt to accept the offer. (Parallels could be made to certain types of human relationships.) Anyway, I'll let you know what happens.

Update:
Make that TWO commenters I now get e-mail notifications for . . . and as it happens, Ariel, that second person is you. Still, no one else.
I think I will root around under the hood here to see if I didn't inadvertently do something to cause this problem. You'd think, though, that if that were the case, I'd not receive any notifications at all.

My husband, Joel, and I got the same messages on some of our blogs. Joel found a way around it, though, when he realized that the rejection was tied to those of our blogs for which there was more than one contributor. We ended up cancelling all 'memberships' to our blogs, switching to the new Blogger successfully, then re-inviting all previous contributors to become members of our blogs. I believe Joel also mentioned something about not being able to switch over if you have more than seven blogs. Anyway, it's a simple enough fix. Hope that helps!

Thanks for the tip, Bulan. Blogger's still playing with me, though. I've removed all contributors and I only have a couple active blogs...maybe it's the size of this blog (several 1000 posts) that's holding me back.

Curse you, Blogger! ;)

P.S. Dana, feel free to link to your blog (or add it to your profile). I'm always interested in what the commentators are blogging about. :)
