Blogger Subscribe to Comments

Blogger Subscribe to Comments

Thanks to various new technologies and a really innovative hack, BittersweetLife is now able to offer an RSS feed for comments.

What does this mean?

For one thing, you can now just subscribe to comments, and have them delivered to you via your favorite newsreader or to your email account.

You'll know immediately when new comments have been made, which has obvious advantages. For example, you can save yourself the trouble of clicking back over to BitterSweetLife multiple times a day (what a hassle!) to see if anyone has gotten around to responding to the brilliant remark you made earlier.

I'm hoping this will make the experience here a little easier to track, and therefore a little more interactive. Since this is a hack, and not seamlessly incorporated in Blogger, there may be a few rough edges, but I like what I'm seeing so far.

Feel free to post questions below, especially if RSS is Greek to you.

In the next couple days I'll be adding a "Subscribe to comments" button in the sidebar, but in the meantime, this post is the portal. If anyone does feel inclined to sign up, I'd love to get "test" feedback to hear how this goes for you.

Update: Actually, the comments subscription button isn't in the sidebar. It's below each post, under the comments section, fittingly enough.

Like what you read? Don't forget to bookmark this post or subscribe to the feed.

I'm in a rare technical mood, and I already have an update, which will give me an excuse to further test the RSS comments...

Perhaps you noticed the small, orange RSS button when you viwed the comments on this post? Voila.

This will be the permanent way to subscribe to comments. Another small victory.

A quick test comment...there may be a few more test comments in the next several days, as I try to polish this.
