Baby in the Hood

A Domestic Urban Interlude

Basketball baby

On Saturday, Aidan entered the great outdoors for the first time. He, Lindsay and I walked down to the leasing office to drop off our rent check. It took us awhile to get there because Aidan’s strides are so short. Plus he insisted on dribbling his stuffed basketball all the way over. That slowed us down even more.

Aidan’s basketball is almost half as tall as he is, so there’s always the danger of the basketball getting the upper hand and Aidan being dribbled by it. Just the same, you have to give it to the kid: He’s got persistence.

When we got to the leasing office, Aidan wanted to go inside and give the check to the secretary himself. You know how kids are. Even though the money isn’t theirs, it makes them feel grown up to handle the family finances. But I told him he had to stay outside with his dad while mom went in.

I figured that when you’re taking your first walk ever, and the sun is shining, you had better stay outside to enjoy it. There will be plenty of time later for throwing money at a rental property.

We sat down on a park bench and Aidan looked around for about five seconds and then went to sleep. Like I said, he’s got persistence, but only while he’s awake. His love for nature is still developing.

I love this fact mixed with fiction thing you've got going.

Hey thanks. Having Aidan around to help with the blog has been very inspiring. He's sitting here with his cup of coffee right now. He wonders what you mean by "fiction" though.
