I’m ostensibly working on a big research paper for my Archaeology class, but I accidentally noticed (no, really) that Relevant Magazine finally got around to posting an article I sent their way a couple months ago. (You could say “author relations” is not their strong point, but the banner graphic does look good…) Give it a hit if you feel so inclined.
Hopefully I’ll have time for a real post later.
In the meantime, have any of you run across any great web sources on the ancient city of Philippi? Yeah... Well, that figures.

have you tried philippi.com? Sometimes their site is a little slow as their webserver is running on a scribe and 2 apprentices and they are having to reuse scrolls. Just keep clicking refresh...
Well, the scribes must have thrown in the towel (that's a lot like throwing in the papyrii, isn't it?) because philippi.com links to a very nice...German home design site.
I did actually find a site maintained by present-day Philippi (the city in Macedonia as opposed to West Virginia) but it was on the touristy side.
So, gymbrall...was that, uh, this url (www.philippi.com) the one you were trying to point me to?
Actually, forget that question. Forget I said anything at all. I'll get you for this, gymbrall.
So will you still talk to us little people now that you're a published author? :)
Well done. Great article.
I think it's only fair that I wait to be a snob until I'm a PAID published author.
It's at that point that I'll begin snubbing all my friends and eating only Hagen Daas ice cream. No more Hy-Vee brand, baby!
Not.
Then again... "Only Hagen Daas..." I may have to think about that.
Actually, it's Häagen-Dazs.
Is that Dutch, or something similar? :)
Is that Dutch, or something similar? :)
Interestingly enough, the name is completely made up. By choosing a Scandinavian sounding name and placing an outline of Denmark on early labels, Mattus was able to turn his floundering business into a successful multinational...
Kind of cool
Those sneaky ice cream makers. I prefer Breyers myself. Quite tasty.
The Dutch thing was a jab at Ariel, all in good fun, of course.

Ah, but now we begin to wonder if the origins of Vanderhorst are't similar...
Well, Ariel, how anout it, or should I call you... Mr. Anderson?!?!
All right, this has gone on long enough.
First, my attempt to ooze class fails because I can't spell "Häagen-Dazs." Then again, who could, except for Mr. Bagel? I don't even think my keyboard can make those
phonetic marks.
The truth is, as Bagel suggests, that Breyers is the top of the ice cream world for lowbrow artists like myself. And since it was on sale last week, our freezer is stocked.
Finally, the origins of "Vanderhorst" will remain unexplained. I am, however, thinking about translating "BitterSweetLife" into Danish...
By the way, what's with "gymbrall" anyway? Now there's a made-up name if I've ever heard one.

Ah, the Danes. I hear they're great.
By the way, what's with "gymbrall" anyway? Now there's a made-up name if I've ever heard one.
Made up? Its after my Great Uncle Gymbrall (a Sackville-Baggins, no less)
"First, my attempt to ooze class fails because I can't spell "Häagen-Dazs." Then again, who could, except for Mr. Bagel? I don't even think my keyboard can make those phonetic marks."
Ha! I Googled it to find the spelling.
The funky ä character is made with an escaped code, ä.
I was wondering when you were going to enter the fray and defend yourself.
Great, great. Nice to know I was dissed by Google and the descendant of a hobbit in the same day.
