My friend and I sat at the bar,
eating sushi there for lunch,
talking about historic trends
and epic lies and truth and such
when he gave me an ironic glance and said,
“You’re still a Christian—how’s the crutch?
How’s it aging, that childish, feel-good first-century stuff?”
Mirroring his approach, I said,
“I see that you’ve been losing touch,
breathing is great and you should try it,
I never liked asphyxiation all that much.”
Blue in the face—“That’s how you see it?”
“That’s how I see it. Trust my hunch.”

A Table Turned

Oh, that's a cute pome!!
>>How you seem to portray christianity gives me a little more hope for what's out there. Thanks for that.>>
I'm glad to hear it. Sad to say, "Christians" are not always the representatives of Christ that we're called to be. The church is guilty of many blunders, some of them costly (you named a couple). Nonetheless, Christ remains true and absolutely worthy of our devotion. My goal is to live a life that is "representative" of such a God.
Nice. Lets see if you get the email notification on this one.
It seems like I am commenting a lot on your blog lately. But I really enjoy what you say and am glad that someone is saying it.
During the past 200 years or so christians have pretty much accepted our role in the world as being "defenders of the faith." This makes me sick. We have forgotten what it means to take the offense when it comes to the debate on religious thinking in our culture. Thank you for posting your conversation and showing how you took the offense in your discussion with your friend. I hope everyone notices how your friend didn't have much to say when you turned the tables on him.

You're still under the radar, .:A:. It's a mystery.
Thanks for your comments, Travis, they're much appreciated.

I feel strongly about this topic, as a recent post may have indicated. Truth, by definition, is worth "fighting" for - respectfully, tactfully - but fighting nonetheless. Otherwise we're implying that it's not all that important after all. But truth, by definition, is always "of the essence."
I think I have figured it out. It is the "." that my 'name' starts with. I know someone else who leaves comments on my blog who has a character at the beginning of the name and they don't come in the email. A bug that blogger needs to fix!
:-)
Very nice. Hard to find a Christian poem (modern) that speaks so clearly of our time.
