I'm a Moby fan because I hear something archetypal in his music. In the way that Myths (in the C.S. Lewis sense) transcend mere news accounts, Moby's soundscapes contain soaring, epic sensations. Or at least I think so. I should probably defend that at more length some time. But I just discovered that Moby has a blog, and that he's a smart, poetic, gritty writer. I like his stuff. Check this post, summers when i was little.
I like Moby too. I was looking at his myspace page the other day and I was impressed by his favorite books: "how about some random books i like....john cheever's journals. walker percy's 'the moviegoer'. wittgenstein's 'tractatus'. frank herbert's 'dune'. anything by flannery o'connor. dostoevsky's 'the idiot'..."

Nice book list. My esteem for Moby has increased. Thanks for the links, Stejahen. Some of that artwork is jaw-dropping. I especially liked the stuff at http://goodbrush.com/... It's really hard to go wrong with futuristic panoramas that involve swordplay.

ReplyDeletePolitically misdirected? Probably. Eclectic? Definitely. Strong voice? For sure. Moby reminds me of Donald Miller in that regard.
