I came across a new blog yesterday that looks promising. The evidence? This post on Essential Culture for Theologians. I'm not sure how narrowly the author, Ben Myers, is defining "theologians" (I mean, do I qualify?), but my guess is that if you're interested in reading a post like this, you're in. I, of course, was principally interested in the novels, popular music, and film sections, which feature some good suggestions, but also some gaping holes. For example, under novels: no C.S. Lewis? You may as well throw a genius party without Einstein. But go see what you think.
I have been a frequent reader of Ben's blog over the last year and have appreciated his insight on many things. I am sure you will enjoy the read as well, Ariel, although he is a little more "liberal" than some (if that word still has any relative meaning in today's world).

ReplyDeleteAnd the personal attacks just keep right on coming. Are you ever going to let that go? He was in Zurich, Ariel. I mean, you still got to meet Szilárd and Oppenheimer, so why are you still mad? Is it because nobody laughed when you made that little joke about Planck's constant need to go to the bathroom? Well, I shouldn't say no one laughed, Heisenberg did, (even if he did seem a little uncertain about it). Anyway, I don't want to argue about this. Just let me know if you're coming to my little get-together this weekend. Stephen's bringing a black hole and were going to throw Preskill's encylopedia in and tell him that if he's such a smarty-pants, to get it back out.

I guess I'll come this weekend...so long as I get to propose the toast. However, I'm going to aim for something Kafkaesque: my remarks will start out feeling like they will transform your view of reality, but end up just ticking you off.
