Unhidden

This poem / lyric is related to the "awfulness of light" post below.

There’s a lantern in the attic
and I see
what the cobwebs have hidden
for so many years
and these are not
the treasures of darkness.

There’s a candle in the basement
and I see
what the shadows have hidden
for so many years
and these are not
the riches of the deep.

There is moonlight in the woods
and I see
what the branches have hidden
for so many years
and this is not
eternal springtime.

The soul’s curtain just swept open
and the audience is stunned,
I guess we’d all been hoping
this moment would never come.

But it takes light to break the darkness,
it takes a song to end the night.
It takes light to end the darkness
and the light is life.
