Birthday Aftermath

Well, the birthday celebration is fading in the background, I'm happy to say. (Aidan poured almost half a bottle of Bailey's into his coffee, and we thought it was just half & half, until he started dancing a jig on the dining room table). Things are slowly calming down around here.

Fortified by new
coffee (Ethiopian and Bolivian were added to the mix), new music (Rosanne Cash and Don Peris), and, of course, new books (Cormac McCarthy's The Crossing, for one), I am ready to face the duration of the semester. Tomorrow, it's back to what we smilingly call "real life" - knowing all the time that real life will actually be exciting, adventurous and very far from staid.

In the meantime, I stare this somewhat surreal academic existence in the face and say tauntingly, Bring it. One year older, one year wiser, one year readier to spit in your eye. I had a good birthday.

  1. Ariel,
A belated happy birthday to you, with a wish for many happy returns of the day.

I think you'll like The Crossing, by the way. There's a longish story-within-a-story in there that I think you'll find intriguing.
